Today is National Book Lovers Day! Not only am I a lover of bourbon, but I have a very strong love of books and reading as well. So, on this holiday I wanted to bring together 2 of my favorite things and share a few books that I really enjoyed that touch on the topic of women and alcohol (sometimes both together).

· Girly Drinks: A World History of Women and Alcohol by Mallory O’Meara

o This micro-history book was a huge inspiration to me as I was considering starting this blog. O’Meara explores not only the impact of alcohol creation and consumption spanning back to early civilizations, but she also dives deep into the women that were involved. With biting commentary from the author woven among historical facts, this book is funny and engaging from start to finish.

· Brand Mysticism: Cultivate Creativity and Intoxicate Your Audience by Aaron Goldfarb and Steven Grasse

o Grasse has been in the marketing game for decades and is the creative brain behind the Sailor Jerry and Hendrick’s Gin brands Grasse and Goldfarb have created a colorful, engaging, and hilarious book filled with business and life lessons on how to build a brand that would catch people’s attention.

· The Ghosts of Eden Park by Karen Abbott

o The story of notorious bootlegger George Remus often seems so strange it couldn’t be true. Abbot’s book not only features the larger-than-life Remus (figuratively and literally) but his 2nd wife Imogene and a female prosecutor that pursued him. If you enjoyed the Great Gatsby in high school, this one is for you.

· Whiskey Women by Fred Minnick

o Minnick is well known in the whiskey industry and if you have not checked him out on any of his platforms, I heavily encourage it! In this book, similar to the first one on my list, Minnick explores women’s contributions to the liquor industry spanning centuries and helps shine a light on the importance of having them included.

· Bourbon Empire by Reid Mitenbuler

o A fun and interesting look at the bourbon industry in America from it’s very early days with moonshiners in the mountains, all the way through Prohibition to modern day (and beyond). Mitenbuler explores so many different aspects of bourbon’s history and the big names that helped, and hindered, the process of bourbon becoming known as “America’s Spirit”.

These are just a few of the books that I have on my shelves, and I am always collecting more to read. I am hoping that we can explore these books together and go more in depth into the stories and people that make this industry shine.
